Avatar was my first Texturing job. Previously I had worked in the Roto/Paint department, but as Avatar started up, a few artists were trained up in texturing via painting leaves. SO MANY LEAVES. It was a good old school intro though, making various maps from photo data. This show was one of the best of my career, everyone at Weta was working on it so it really felt like a huge team of people all working towards the same goal. I mostly worked on costumes and flora, some of the more highlights are Neytiri and Jake's Visors and the Helocoriadian plant (the orange fan-like one). Another show were we had a lot of the costumes in our hands as we replicated them digitally. Fun fact: this show was one of the first projects to use the 3D painting program, Mari, while it was still in-house at Weta.
